Jay Rogers

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2019 at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville for Jay E. Rogers.

Mr. Rogers, 81, died April 2 at his home.

He was born June 19, 1937 in St. Louis, the son of the late Edward J. and Ruth (Hoffman) Rogers. He married the former Raelene M. Schumacher in 1959.

He was a 1955 graduate of Christian Brothers College High School in St. Louis, and served his country with the U.S. Army overseas in Germany. He returned and worked for the John Deere Corporation as territory sales manager for 26 years. In 1990, he founded Rite-Way-To Rent, along with family, owned and operated countless store throughout the area, retiring in 2005.

After retirement, he began working for the City of Jerseyville through the Parks and Recreation Department and was a volunteer at Jersey Community Hospital. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Westlake Country Club and Elks Lodge #954, all in Jerseyville.

Surviving is his wife; a daughter, Michele (Joseph) Kallal of Jerseyville; four sons, including Tim (Ruth) Rogers of Jerseyville; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville; burial will be in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to either St. Francis/Holy Ghost Catholic Schools in Jerseyville or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
