Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 2019 at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville for John Bernard “Buggs” Pohlman, Jr.
Mr. Pohlman, 89, died April 30 at Jersey Community Hospital.
He was born November 8, 1929 in Meppen, the son of the late John Bernard and Catherine (Imming) Pohlman, Sr. He married the former Mary Ann Pille in 1955.
As a young boy, his family moved to Carrollton, where he attended St. Johns Catholic School for eight years and graduated in 1948 from St. Johns Catholic High School.
He enlisted with the United States Army and served in Germany during the Korean War with the 485th Army Combat Engineers. He was employed at Olin Corporation in East Alton and dedicated 40 years of service before his retirement from Primer Island in 1993.
A staunch member of the Democratic Party, he served for many years as the Precinct Committeeman for Precinct 5 in the City of Jerseyville. He also served on the Zoning Board of Appeals and was very active in the St. Francis Parent’s Board, of which he once served as President.
Surviving are his wife; Mary Ann; seven children, including Kenny (Pam) Pohlman, Paul (Cory) Pohlman, Steve (Brandi) Pohlman, Mark Pohlman, Mary (Mike) Nyberg and Nancy (Mike) Ferguson, all of Jerseyville; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and extended family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Jerseyville; burial will be in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery with full military graveside rites given by the Jerseyville American Legion Post #492.
Memorials may be made to St. Francis/Holy Ghost Catholic Schools in Jerseyville.
