Charlie Meisner

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 17, 2020 at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville for Charles Vincent Meisner of Jerseyville.

Mr. Meisner, 90, died July 15 at his home.

He was born October 9, 1929 in Jersey County, the son of the late Henry and Ida Lena (Hoehn) Meisner. He married the former Helen Elaine Schaefer in 1951; she died in 2001.

He was born, worked, raised his family and passed away on the farm that he so cherished. He tirelessly worked the ground day and night in order to raise his family, and was able to ride his tractor for the last time just over a week ago. He was also a rural mail carrier for many years through the Jerseyville Post Office.

He was a 1947 graduate of Jersey Township High School and served his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean war. He was active in the community as a longtime member of the Jerseyville American Legion Post #492, Jersey County Fair Board, Tri County Shorthorn Association, Rural Mail Carrier Association, Knights of Columbus and a former leader for Jersey County 4-H.

Surviving are seven children, Carolyn Meisner, Theresa (Butch) McGowen, Marilyn (Dennis) Brunaugh and Louis Meisner, all of Jerseyville; John (Donna) Meisner and Joan (Marcus) Schaefer, all of Piasa and Carl Meisner of Virginia; 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

A private Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, July 18 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery in Jerseyville with the Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 conducting graveside military rites.
